In Balance With: Nastia Liukin

Five-time Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin has never taken things slow. After retiring from gymnastics in 2012, she published a book, competed in Dancing with the Stars, and completed her degree in sports management at NYU. This August she’s off to Brazil to serve as the NBC’s commentator at the Rio Games. Oh and did we mention she’s joined TULA as our first Brand Ambassador?!

It is her everlasting ambition and remarkable entrepreneurial spirit that makes us wonder how this balance beam champion manages to balance it all.

  • I find balance in…

Eating clean, drinking plenty of water, working out and spending time with family and friends.

  • In the morning I like to…

As soon as I wake up, I have a glass of water. Then I will have a cup of coffee while catching up on emails. Then I head to the gym to get my workout in before my day starts.

  • Beauty obsession of the moment…

Face masks! I love the TULA face mask. I have to wear a lot of makeup for photo shoots or while commentating on TV, so I like giving my skin a break whenever I can. I’ll start that by having a spa night at home.

  • One piece of health advice you would give to your younger self?

Believe in yourself and your dreams. Don’t let anyone tell you that something is impossible.

  • What makes you crack up with laughter?

My fiancé always knows how to make me laugh.

  • Healthy habit you’d like to adopt?

Drinking more water. I travel so much and when flying it’s important to drink even more water than usual. I sometimes seem to forget to do that.

  • Your guilty pleasure…

Ben & Jerry’s Almond Milk Chunky Monkey ice cream.

  • What was the last song you sang in the shower?

“Shut up and dance” by Walk the Moon.

  • I like to work up a sweat by…

    Hot yoga at CorePower.

  • My super power is …

I seem to be able to read people really well–whether it’s their intention (good or bad) or their thoughts.

  • Cause closest to your heart?

I lost my grandmother to ovarian cancer, so I love supporting organizations helping combat cancer. I also love visiting children’s hospitals. There’s just something about it when you walk into their room and see them smile at you–it just warms your heart.

  • Netflix What? Chill with who?

Chill with my fiancé. Netflix, we just watched Zootopia and loved it! Even though it’s an animated movie, it had a great message.
